WCA – weekly updates newsletter – week of Friday, October 13th

Here’s this week’s news and updates!

1. Grandparents’ Day, Friday, October 20th

Just a reminder that Grandparents Day will be Friday, October 20th! This is for grandparents with students in grades K-6 and will be from 12:30-2:30. You should be receiving an invitation from your grandchild soon to attend a special afternoon where you are celebrated for your awesomeness. You can spend time with them while you enjoy a tour of their classroom, special performances and presentations, and end with a coffee hour in our cafeteria at the end of the day. We hope you can make it! Don’t forget to send in your pick up permission form to the teacher!

2. Can you help bake for Grandparents’ Day?

We are so excited for the upcoming Grandparent’s Day at WCA for out K-6!  The PTP is working on organizing refreshments for the event, and we could use a few more bakers… CLICK HERE for more details.

3. Cookie Dough & Holiday Wish Fundraiser

We will be starting our Midland fundraiser soon! This year we will be doing a Cookie Dough and Holiday Wish Fundraiser to raise money for our school. This will be starting on October 23rd and running for two weeks. This year students have the opportunity to earn some neat gifts as rewards for hitting certain benchmarks. This includes free cookie dough, and a 50.00 Amazon gift card to the top 2 sellers! Packets will be going home on Monday, October 23rd, so be on the lookout!

4. Best dressed for chapel, Wednesday, October 11

This past week, we had five students win the Best Dressed for Chapel Day Award! Dakota Guitreau, Oliver Collins, Annabel O’Meara, Alex Trigos, and Ben Durkee. They came to school dressed in their finest and we want to recognize them for this effort!

5. Junior & Senior High schedule changes

We have made some slight adjustments in the 7-12 grades schedule and classes to help support the students and staff in their day to day experience. It is our goal to have a good balance of academics, extracurricular activities, and family life. We hope these changes will be beneficial to all!

6. Sixth grade field trip fundraiser

As a reminder, each Friday the 6th grade will be selling ice cream and ice pops in the lunch room until further notice. This is our first fundraiser to support our class trip to the Mystic Aquarium and Sea Port. Please support us in this and enjoy some yummy treats at the same time. Ice pops will be nut free and $1.00 each. Ice cream will be $2.00, individually wrapped and may contain nuts.

7. Junior safety officer program now open to upper classmen

We will be offering the Junior Safety Officer (JSO) program to upperclassmen. It is now open to students in grades 7-12. This is a great way to complete community service hours. The program will be on a weekly rotation with two students working together for a week to help escort smaller children from the building to their vehicles and vice versa. Students will need to be at the WCA campus by 7:30 a.m. and stay until 3:15 P.M. each day to participate in the program. (If you are able to participate in just the afternoons, please still submit the form and make a note to let us know! Please fill out the form and submit it to Mrs. Trigos!

8. Study Body Government Elections

Last week we voted in Student Council officers. Our candidates each gave a speech in front of the 7-12th grade in the sanctuary. Many of the speeches were very impressive! We now have the following officers to represent the entire 7-12th grade school body:

  • Bradley Thurston President,
  • Rosie Durkee Vice President,

We are excited to see them grow into leadership!

Gordon College will be visiting WCA on Wednesday, October 25th to speak with 9-12th grade students. They will share about the college and overall student life at Gordon should they choose to attend.
