4. Community service is for junior highers too!

This year we are starting to include community service for our junior high students. The requirement is 20 hours a year and opportunities to fulfill these hours will be provided within school hours. This will include helping with special events.
5. Welcome our new 5th grade teacher!

We would like to introduce you to our newest team member, Lisa Shepard! Lisa has been a part of WCA for a few years as a parent, and school supporter and we are pleased that she will be our new fifth grade teacher. She has many years experience in education working as a classroom teacher, behavior interventionist, and special needs educator. Mrs. Shepard will be shadowing all next week with Mrs. Schumacher as we work together to make a smooth transition for the fourth and fifth grade students. Mrs. Shepard and Mrs. Schumacher will continue to work together throughout the year combining classes when necessary.
6. Gradparents Day is October 20th!

Grandparents Day will be Friday, October 20th! This is for grandparents with students in grades K-6 and will be from 12:30-2:30. You should be receiving an invitation from your grandchild soon to attend a special afternoon where you are celebrated for your awesomeness. You can spend time with them while you enjoy a tour of their classroom, special performances and presentations, and end with a coffee hour in our cafeteria at the end of the day. We hope you can make it!
7. Student Council is kicking off!

Student Council will be starting soon for grades 7-12. Homeroom teachers will be speaking with their students about the different roles available to their grade. We are excited to see who will campaign in the next couple of weeks and who will be voted in! This is an excellent opportunity for students to learn Godly leadership and help build school spirit.
8. Fine Arts Competition!

As a Christian school, we are part of both the American Association of Christian Schools, (AACS) and the New England Association of Christian Schools (NEACS). We are excited to be participating in the Fine Arts Competition this year on March 15th, 2024 in Concord, New Hampshire with the NEACS. We will be letting students know they have the opportunity to perform in the areas of academics, art, Bible, and music. Winners will be going on to the nationals!
9. Junior Safety Officer program

Beginning in October, we will be working with junior high students who would like to participate in our Junior Safety Officer program. In the past, WCA worked with volunteer students who helped escort smaller children from the building to their vehicle. This is an excellent way to build school spirit and a sense of responsibility and community and we will be reinstating this. This is one opportunity to fulfill the 20 hour a year community service requirement. We will be sending out more details and a permission slip soon and we hope to have many volunteers!
